Exploring Historical & Cultural Sites

Sariska is not only a treasure trove of wildlife but also a land steeped in ancient history and cultural significance. One of the most prominent landmarks is the Pandupol Temple, nestled deep within the reserve. Believed to be associated with the Pandavas from the Mahabharata, this temple is said to be where Bhima defeated the demon Hidimb. Surrounded by lush forests, it is both a spiritual and scenic destination, attracting pilgrims and nature lovers alike. The Neelkanth Mahadev Temple, dating from the 7th to 10th century, is an architectural structure of note. Situated amidst the Aravalli Hills, this temple complex houses over 80-100 intricately carved temples, most in ruins, adding a mystical charm to the landscape. The serene ambience and detailed stonework make it a must-visit for history buffs and photographers. Perched high on a hill is the Kankwari Fort, a historic structure built by King Jai Singh under the rule of the Mughal Empire. It was used as a prison for Dara Shikoh as ordered by Aurangazeb. The fort offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding jungle, making the climb worthwhile. Its strategic location and rich history make it an intriguing stop during your Sariska adventure.

Nature Walks & Bird Watching

For those who seek a closer connection with nature, Sariska offers immersive guided nature walks through its pristine forests and rugged terrain. Trails like Lilonda, Kraska and Sukola are led by experienced naturalists who share insights about the region’s diverse flora, fauna, and ecological balance. Walk amidst ancient trees, hear the rustle of wildlife, and feel the serenity that only untouched nature can provide. Sariska is a birdwatcher’s paradise, with over 200 species of resident and migratory birds in the region. From the vibrant Indian peafowl to the elusive crested serpent eagle, the forest echoes with melodious bird calls. Other commonly spotted species include kingfishers, Indian grey hornbills, paradise flycatchers, and treepies. Early mornings and late afternoons are ideal times for birdwatching, especially around water bodies and forest clearings. These walks offer incredible photographic opportunities and a chance to unwind in the lap of nature.
