The Journey into Sariska’s Wilderness

There’s a certain magic in the wilderness that cannot be captured in words, but some experiences demand to be shared.

On a tranquil evening at Utsav Camp Sariska, my naturalist colleague Shubh and I embarked on a journey to explore the rugged terrain near Murlipura village. The golden hour bathed the landscape in warm hues, transitioning into twilight—a perfect time for wildlife exploration amid the rugged boulders of Sariska

A Glimpse of the Elusive Leopards

We trekked into the heart of the terrain, a landscape dotted with ancient boulders, perfect for scanning the wilderness. After finding a vantage point, we perched ourselves atop a boulder, quietly scanning the area for wildlife, particularly the elusive leopards. It wasn’t long before our patience was rewarded.

Suddenly, an excited whisper broke the silence. About 70-80 meters away, two leopards—a mother and her cub—resting peacefully on a nearby boulder. It was a moment of pure exhilaration, witnessing these majestic animals in their natural habitat.

As I quietly reached for my camera, the mother leopard stirred. She opened her eyes and fixed her gaze on us, a steady stare that lasted for more than 10 minutes. Those moments felt like an eternity, her piercing eyes holding a mix of curiosity and vigilance. We froze, not wanting to disturb her.

A Moment of Suspense and Wonder

Then, as suddenly as she appeared, the leopard vanished from sight and a wave of fear washed over us. "Where had the leopard gone? Was it approaching us? Our pulses quickened, the uncertainty of the situation making the silence almost unbearable." Moments later, she reemerged, gently rousing her cub. Together, they descended from the boulder and disappeared into the wilderness, leaving us in awe.
